Mary Caton bridges literary, historical, and digital approaches to sonic scholarship. In her current project she transforms archival silences into audible history by recovering traces of Afro-Atlantic musical expression in literature. In her digital humanities work and classroom teaching, she uses multimedia to enrich academic practices with sound. Mary Caton’s research was recently featured in this news story on interdisciplinarity at Duke University, where she is currently completing her PhD in English. She previously earned a Master’s degree in English at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
