During her time as Visiting Faculty Fellow, Meredith Goldsmith created a map of locations referenced in Edith Wharton's novel The Age of Innocence. In order to do this she had a great deal to learn about the tools and techniques of digital mapping. One outcome of her work is the web site Mapping Literary Visions.

​Novels ask big questions about their characters: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Mapping Literary Visions enables readers to navigate literary space—the “where” of literary texts–through interactive maps. On this website, users can explore novelistic terrain, gain insight into the cultural context of the texts depicted, and learn to map their own favorite literary works.

Included in the site are example maps from her work on Wharton, GIS resources, and a helpful Q&A page for literary scholars interested in mapping.
