Extinction Narratives
Tuesday, January 31, 2017 - 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Faculty and students are invited to join Story Lab's working group on Extinction Narratives, focusing on the ways in which concerns with loss of biodiversity (including the possible extinction of the human race) are understood, imagined, and narrativized. This session will focus on the theme of obsolescence, as explored in the work of Ted Chiang ("The Lifecycle of Software Objects" (a novella)) and an optional selection from Kathleen Fitzpatrick's Planned Obsolescence: Publishing, Technology, and the Future of the Academy. Dinner and texts will be provided.
